WCRS RadioStage
I always loved old radio dramas so in 2000 when Written Communications Radio Service, a radio reading service for the blind, took their studios to digital I started preparing scripts that could relive those thrilling days of yesteryear. So I assembled friends and volunteer and we laid down the voice tracks with sound effects and music inserted in post production.
The thought was to produce a half hour drama a month. An ambitious goal considering that there was NEVER a regular radio drama series EVER broadcast out of Akron, Ohio. Over the next twenty-four months we were able to out together twenty-two stories, After that we put together an occasional story - mostly at Christmas

The Sherlock Holmes Assignment
Another story I based on a short story that I co-wrote with Mike. This is a twist on the character and takes place twenty years after the last documented story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. When we were writing this I always saw it as a radio play. Really glad I finally got to do it.
The Old Curiosity Shop stories
I met aspiring writer John Drew through the internet while doing this series. He gave me stories for two short series. Here are four of his stories from the Old Curiosity Shop where the shop keeper will sell you a cursed item - if you really want to buy it. My good friend Mel Hart played the shop keeper.
Episodes are: "THROUGH ROSE COLORED GLASSES", "THE WATCH", "THE ULTIMATE STORY" and "THE HEALING TOUCH". click on the next track button to hear the next episode Havencroft's Secret
Another Internet writer Michael Giorgio submitted three scripts that I produced here on RadioStage. Here's one of them. We won a national award for radio reading services for this program. Everyone was great here.
The Brick Wall Mysteries
Although not a mystery writer, I wrote these little stories about a mystery writer and the Noir character he writes about and how the two of them get involved in real mysteries. Here are the three stories I wrote.
"MYSTERY BY ACCIDENT" , "A CONVENTIONAL MURDER", and "THE GHOST THAT KILLED" click on next track button to go to next story RadioStage Christmas Stories
Here are three Christmas stories I wrote for the program
"HOME FOR CHRISTMAS" A woman wakes to find herself on a bus headed for Cleveland - where she had run away from 18 years before. "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS ... IS REVENGE!" I think the title says it all. "THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS PAST" Believe it or not, Ripley, I had never seen an episode of Ghost Whisperer before I wrote this episode. Maybe I should have been a "ghost" writer. click on next track button to get to next story. It's Time To Go Home
This is my tribute to mid 1950's old radio science fiction broadcasts
The Mummy Speaks
Dave Crawford wanted to write a story for the program so I pitched in with him and we wrote a story base a a little known Edgar Allen Poe story, Conversation With a Mummy. This was possibly the first Mummy come to life story written.

A Timeless Affair
A radio play based on a short story I co-wrote with Mike Elliott back in college. This was the first of our radio plays. Always liked the story - and I don't think we harmed it too much here.
A Matter of Life and Death
A story of life and death and family relationships, So many people told me that I wrote their story - maybe I did. But then again maybe I wrote yours. Lee & Josie were really crying at the end of the recording. An amazing performance.
Hit and Running
A psychological drama I wrote about what runs through the mind of a hit skip driver. Joe - usually my announcer - got the lead on this one and was fantastic.
1-800 Helpline
Here's the story about a guy who volunteers on one of those call in help lines - but gets a bit too involved. Not one of my best scripts but Diana & Mat took it places I hadn't imagined.
A Choice of Victims
An interesting story by Michael Giorgio about a bank robbery that goes wrong and what the hostages have to do - and what they do to each other.
Whistle Stop
A couple get lost in the fog, have a car accident, and look for help in a small town called Whistle Stop.
Justin Case Mysteries
Another series of stories by John Drew. These are the three Justin Case Mysteries John sent to me.
"MURDER ON THE AIR", "MURDER IN HIGH SOCIETY", and "MURDER IN A ONE HORSE OPEN SLEIGH" click on next track button to go to next story The Footnote
Based on a short - short story that Mike and I co-wrote in diary form. The idea was great but the story was too short for a show - so I built a story around the diary
Solutions By Hellinger
Another Michael Giorgio story about a company that stats that they can end all your problems - whatever they are.
The Mirror
A young couple buys a mirror in which you can see the faces of the dead - when the moon is right
Experiment In Stereo
In our last five productions I took the mono voice track and panned it to create a stereo effect. See what you think it does to these stories.
"THE MUMMY SPEAKS", "IT'S TIME TO GO HOME", "WHISTLE STOP", "ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS ... IS REVENGE!", and "SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS PAST" CLICK ON NExT TRACK BUTTON TO GO TO THE NEXT STORY |
Along with my partner in crime, Dave Crawford - who did most of the music - we put these shows together and aired on WCRS but also on Cleveland and on Radio Reading Services across the country. We even had a run on Hosprig Programming - an in house audio drama radio channel played throughout several hospitals in the UK.
